Children & Youth Ministries

Centenary United Methodist Church offers a wide variety of ministries for children and youth of all ages.
Junior High and High School Youth Group
Our Youth Group meets Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the fellowship hall and youth room. Meetings consist of Bible study and worship time, an activity and dinner is provided.  Each month we have a special activity like a trip to Holiday World, zip lining, and roller skating. For more information and a detailed schedule visit our Youth Group page.
Junior Youth Group
All youth in grades third through fifth are invited to join us on the third Sunday of the month from September to May from 2-3pm in the fellowship hall.  There is an activity, a Bible lesson and a snack.

Book Club for Young Readers
Our Book Club for Young Readers meets from 6-7pm on the first Thursday of the month from September to April at the Centenary Children's Library, located on the second floor of the church, at the top of the stairs.  Join us for a time of sharing good books and fellowship with others.  No prior reading is necessary.
Sharing Your Musical Talent
All children and youth are invited to join the Music Ministry through your special talents.  We are looking for Special Music performances during our church services. Can you sing?  Perfect!  Can you play an instrument?  We’d love to hear it!  Any ages of youth are welcome.  Ann Roedl and Kendra Johnson will help you find music and rehearse. We’d love for you to take this chance and show off the talent that lies within you.
Conference Retreats
Throughout the year the Illinois Great Rivers Conference hosts youth retreats and events.  Youth Annual Retreat (YAR) and Fire Up! are two of these events for our junior and senior high youth that provide opportunities for spiritual growth and connection with others throughout Illinois.
Church Camp
There are a variety of United Methodist Church Camps at Little Grassy Camp near Carbondale, East Bay Camp near Bloomington, Beulah Camp in Eldorado, and Epworth Journey near Greenville that are offered to our youth and adults of all ages during the summer months.  A canoe trip in the Wisconsin River and a youth seminary to Washington, DC are also offered. Scholarships are available to help make this easier for families to attend.  More information is available here.
Mission Trips
There are several opportunities for mission trips.  During the school year a group of youth and adults head to Little Grassy Camp in southern Illinois to help with projects at the church camp.  In the summer, a group of adults and senior high youth head to the Henderson Settlement in Kentucky to do various mission projects.
Vacation Bible School
Children and youth 3 years old to fifth grade are invited to participate in Vacation Bible School. Youth in grades sixth through eighth are invited to help.
Youth in seventh grade are invited to be a part of our Confirmation class.  We will meet for twelve weeks beginning the week after Ash Wednesday. For more information please contact Pastor Jessica.
